Authors of “Womenomics: Write Your Own Rules for Success.
Claire Shipman and Katty Kay wrote an interesting article in the May 21, 2009 issue of Business Week, called “How Women are Redefining Work and Success.” In this article they discuss how women are changing the future of organizations and how they operate by working how they prefer to work. This is a radical change from the top-down corporate directive approach to work that most women have built their corporate careers under. The authors say that the most important component driving the future of work is that women are finally understood to be good for business. Three studies, including one by Catalyst, a leading advocacy group for women in the workplace, found that the more senior women at a company, the more money it makes. What's Your Bold Move?
At our Magic Party summer retreat last July, Magic Faculty member Alexandria Hilton led us through an entire day of how to make our dreams come true and then followed it up with a teleclass for those interested in going deeper and into action. Both programs were remarkable and, even though I think everything we do is pretty remarkable, these two programs changed my life in a good way. I know from emails I have received that I am not alone and many of the women have already created remarkable results themselves.
We began by identifying a dream and then standing up to declare it out loud.
I decided to go for broke and figuring I had nothing to lose somehow squeaked out that I wanted to be the next Oprah with a syndicated TV show focused on helping viewers heal their bodies, minds, and spirits and bring a little magic into their lives.
Aside from all the reasons I knew this was a stupid, ridiculous and very far fetched dream, I somehow found myself taking some small but wicked courageous steps over the next few months. The first thing I did was sign up for an acting class. I figured if I was ever going to be on TV, I should probably have some idea of what might be required.
Since I have absolutely no acting, television, or media experience, acting class seemed like a good place to start. Until I walked into the room on the first day, that is, and almost passed out from fear. Seriously! No kidding! Yup, me, the sometimes daring chick, who has been in front of corporate groups for 20 plus years, way out of her comfort zone and scared to death!
The experience turned out much better than I thought once I got over the initial panic. My teacher Daena Giardella, www.daenagiardella.com said I have potential and that’s good enough for me. I just completed her 5 week improv class and found out I really like this acting thing and look forward to doing more of it.
But here is my really big news. Thanks to Jackie Bell, www.NaturalBell.com who inspired me by starting her own local cable TV show and Anna Huckabee Tull www.customcraftedsongs.com for introducing me to Szifra Birke, who let me sit in on her taping of her local cable show called ShrinkRap, I, yes that would be me, the girl who dreams big and then wonders what the heck she was thinking, taped my first show; Wake Up with Wendy; Discover the Magic of YOU!. this week on local cable television.
OK, so it’s just local cable and not syndicated television, but I figure everyone starts somewhere. I am proud, excited and, after viewing the shoot; realize I have LOTS and TONS of room for improvement. My producer says it’s great to have things to work on to improve yourself, otherwise you get bored. I cannot even fathom the idea of being bored.
The show is about helping viewers bring a little more magic into their lives through finding, expanding, and using their gifts and talents to make a bigger difference in the world. I am finding it can be fun being a beginner if I can control my inner critic.
Every dream starts with a single step; just one crazy single bold move. Being a beginner can be loads of fun. Just think, as a beginner you have no bad habits to have to break.
I know many of you have dreams. I know many of you are working on your dreams. Please do share by sending an email to info@themagicparties.com and we will post them in next month’s newsletter.

Social Media tool especially Twitter
I have been using Facebook, LinkedIn and now Twitter for quite a few months. It surely can be time consuming but so is all marketing. I would put this kind of marketing into the "second degree" bucket, like a newsletter or e-brochure. It's a little removed and usually don't know whether anyone is even interested or to what degree in what you have to say. I don't think the jury is still out whether these social media tools are here to stay; they are. Now we just have to figure out how to use them to suit our needs and purposes. Mike Stelzner wrote this interesting Social Media Marketing Industry Report. It's free. Click here to read. http://cli.gs/QYEpY2 #smreport

Saturday's Women's Circle
We had a really great Women's Circle at Melanie's yesterday. Kate, our new Magic Faculty member, facilitated our afternoon. The topic was Wisdom of the Heart. I know the topic kind of sounds a bit generic but we had an amazing time as Kate taught us how to talk to our minds, hearts and our Divine selves. The best part was posing a question we each had been struggling with in our lives and learning how to hear the real answer instead of the voice of worry and struggle. Man, I can't wait to apply this technique on an ongoing basis. Kate and I are going to talk about whether we can somehow teach her technique on our television show. This is something everyone will just love.

UCLA does study on women
A landmark UCLA study suggests friendships between women are special. They shape who we are and who we are yet to be. They soothe our tumultuous inner world, fill the emotional gaps in our marriage, and help us remember who we really are.
Scientists now suspect that hanging out with our friends can actually counteract the kind of stomach-quivering stress most of us experience on a daily basis. A landmark UCLA study suggests that women respond to stress with a cascade of brain chemicals that cause us to make and maintain friendships with other women. It's a stunning find that has turned five decades of stress research.

Television here I come!
Ever since I was on “Bozo the Clown” a Boston-based children’s television show when I was five years old, I have dreamt of being on television and having my own television show. Today was my lucky day where the dreamer in me got awakened.
Last summer at our Magic Retreat by the lake, our topic and theme was “awakening the dreamer and turning our dreams into reality.” As part of the program we each had to declare out loud to the group a dream we have. Yup, you guessed it; mine was I wanted to have my own national television show.
As soon as the words left my mouth, I thought it sounded ridiculous and I wondered who else thought I was insane. The reason it sounded especially crazy is that I have no background in the television industry or background in media of any kind. I considered that my declaration was just a moment of “workshop passion,” you know the excitement one has while in a workshop to make a big change in your life? I knew I was probably safe because usually workshop passion disappears, brings you back to your senses and convinces you whatever you said was not something you either believed in or expected would actually happen once you spend a few days back in your real life and away from the workshop.
Somehow I was able to feel both crazy and excited at the same time with the possibility of having my own show and I started to brainstorm ideas for getting started. The first thing I did was sign up for an acting class. I figured if I was going to be on television, I should have some skills and learn some foundational techniques.
Well, today was my lucky day where the dreamer in me knew without a doubt that I was on my way, even though in the early stages of my journey. Today I made the first foray into television as I had the first taping of my new local cable television show called, Wake Up with Wendy; Discover the Magic of You. It wasn’t half bad for the first time out of the shoot.
I’m no Oprah but I have a dream that is bigger than my fears!
Dreams really do come true. So can yours.

Are you Emerging?
This century is being referred to by many as the Sophia century where women’s energy is predominating and the men who are in power and who are successful are those in touch with their feminine side.
I believe the whole collapse of the financial markets, many traditional model companies, and the upheaval of entire industries is in part due to the collapse of the masculine model of leadership and the old way of doing business, where:
>More is better.
>It’s a “you or me” world.
>That’s just the way it is.
>Command and control leadership.
>Individual heroic (I can do this alone) is the model.
>Focus on the mind as the primary method for determining the best strategies and solutions.
>Doing more, driving to get results, and striving to get things done.
....Is over.
More and more, women all over the planet are being called forth, by the universe, by spirit, by their inner voices to step in, step up, and step out. Personally, I am experiencing the emergence of the feminine model, in contrast to the masculine model above, where:
>We have more than enough. I am enough.
>It s a “you and me” world.
>There’s no such thing as “That’s just the way it is.”
>Collaboration, sisterhood, circles of women are forming all over the planet in ever increasing numbers. Women are bringing their uniqueness to the collective team in new ways to make a better product, outcome, and result.
>Affiliation is the model.
>Paying attention to our inner voices, accessing mindfulness and spirit to solve problems and find solutions.
>Love and power are now being integrated along with the mind as the primary methods for determining strategies, goals and outcomes.
>Supporting ourselves and others to flourish.
>Just being, experiencing the natural flow and creating space to let the answers come and the results unfold.
How many of you are doing things in your life, personally and professionally that you have never done before? Maybe even never dreamed of doing?
I say YEAH! Let’s keep going.
